A final blog post for 2019. ( Reflection )

Something I enjoyed doing in Year 7 is doing different types of activities like Japanese, Science, Art and more. I also really enjoyed going to Jellie Park on Tuesday to swim with my friends and do activities like, Water fights, Swimming Races and more.

What I didn't enjoy throughout the year was doing PE since I don't play a lot of sport but I do like some sports like Badminton and Hockey. The sports I don't like the most are Rugby, Basketball, and Touch.

I can't wait for next year since there will be new activities to do and I'm going to meet some of my old friends next year.

Freak The Mighty (Book Review)

Freak The Mighty (Book Review)

Freak The Mighty by Rodman Philbrick is a humourous, scary, suspenseful book that explains a boy named Maxwell Kane, a large, kindhearted boy, and Kevin Avery(Nicknamed "Freak") who is physically handicapped but very intelligent. Maxwell Kane was always bullied and used to be always called stupid. Worse still, everyone says he looks like his fearsome dad " Killer Kane", until he meets Kevin, who isn't afraid of anything. They experienced hard and fun times and together they became Freak The Mighty!

Overall my final rating to this book is 7/10 the reason that I gave this book this rating because the book was not that interesting to me and it wasn't really the type of book that I would read if I had the choice too and because that the book had too many things going on in the pages/chapters. If you like a book that includes these genres: humorous, scary, suspenseful, bullying and school I recommend this book for you too read.

Hi, My name is Zoe, I am a Year 7  from Hornby High School, I would really like to learn about art and I am really looking forward to what exciting adventures awaits me in 2020. The Thing that seems interesting to do the Summer Learning journey to me is some of the topics to blog about and mostly the prizes for me. One of the topics I'm really interested in is "All The World's a Stage"( Arts and Entertainment).

What I like bout the Summer Learning Journey is that you can blog about interesting topics and you can also win cool Prizes. I might not be able to participate in the Summer Learning Journey program since we have plans to do in summer-break or I might forget.

Conclusion -

 For the last two weeks, we have been working on a kindness poster/banner to hang up at our school. We had to be working in teams of four to make our banner since the banner was gonna be big. first, we had to draw what our idea and what are the colors were gonna use for our banner. My teammates were Liyah, Skyler, and Shiela.

Freak The Mighty Summary #2

What happened in the last three chapters was that Freak and Max were chased by guys and then eventually they became Freak The Mighty because they escaped safely. Then Max's dad "Killer Kane" would be released from prison soon. Max and the others were very nervous about Kane's return. Then it became Christmas Eve and they had a super with Freak. then Max gave Freak a present that he made and I'm pretty sure that the present he gave was called " Freaks Dictionary".

I'm sure that's what happened in the last three chapters.

Digital Tech Hurumanu

Digital Tech Hurumanu

on Digital Tech Hurumanu we are focusing on doing a digital game/app and we had to chose an issue, we had a choice of picking one of these issues Social issue, Environmental issue or Ethical issue. I picked an environmental issue since it's about our environment and our natural resources, I also wanted to pick this issue because a lot of people our hurting and polluting our environment. Deforestation is a tragic thing that affected the environment. Scienctist say that trees provide us with more oxygen and if they were to be extinced in our world we would have less oxygen to provide us and we would have to face the consequences of what we cause in humanity.

What went well for me developing my game/app. First of all the app I used to make my game is  called Gamefroot and what went well for me using that app is that it had the materials that reqiured to make my game.

What would you do differently nextime? what changes would you like to make if you knew what to do now? What would I do differentaly nextime I would try to do another issue and how I would fix the problem that caused the issue to exsist. The changes that I would want to change in my game would try to make the game the orignal idea I had in my mind and try to creat my own characters for the game.

On Tuesday on maths we were working on a dmic activity and it was about two people Matiu and Ariana and them working for their Mum over the holidays and we had a choice of who would we pick Ariana or Matui. Here are the questions.

Questions
Matui and Ariana have agreed  to work for their Mum over the holidays. The pay they get will vary.
Ariama will get $10 for the first day she works and two more dollars for every day she works after that.
Matiu will get $1 for the first day he works, but for each day he works from then on, his pay will be doubled.

Who would you rahther be and why? I would choose Ariana because she would get more money than Matiu.

M. On the first day that Matiu works he would get $1 dollar then from then on he works he would get $2 everyday he works for 2 weeks = 14 days but since he gets $1 on the first day so  it would be 13 days so 13 x 2 = $26 + $1 = $27. So, after 2 weeks the money he got altogether would be $27.


 A. on the first day Ariana works she would get $10 and $2 more dollars after she works for 2 weeks = 14 days but since she gets $10 dollar on the first day then that wouldn't count so it's  13 x 2 = 26, so Ariana would get $26 dollars plus $10 dollars.
So if we add up all the money she got it would be $36 dollars.

Freak The Mighty(Summary)

The first thing we had to do is read 3 chapters of the book " Freak The Mighty ". Then we had to write a blog post of what has happened in the 3 chapters.

The things that have happened in the 3 chapters is their is this kid named Max and he meets this small kid called Freak in daycare. Their were also other characters like Gram, Grim. Before Max met Freak, Max was bullied and how Gram and Grim tried to make max feel loved by them but Max didn't wanted to be loved he just wanted to be liked by everyone. then on the 2nd to 3rd chapters it tells when Freak moved to somewhere when they were little kids adn how he met him again later on when they became older. I think thats all happened in the 3 chapters i'm not sure but that's all I can remember for now.

This book seems really interesting and I think I would like this book.

the teacher told us before we read  Freak The Mighty, our new novel book that were going to read we had to answer questions that involves aroung the book before we read it. Here our the questions that we have to answer.



  1. Based on the front cover and title ONLY what do you predict this book might be about? I think the book mgiht be about a person that got bullied or abused in school.
  2. If something is described as ‘mighty’, what do you think that means? I think it means that a person is powerful and strong.
  3. Describe a time you have been called a name or picked on. How did you feel? What made you feel better? I get teased by some people but their mostly my friends and I don't really take it seriously but if I got offended I mostly just watch funny videos.
  4. Describe the difference between being a ‘bystander’ and an ‘outstander’. The deference between a 'bystander' and an 'outstander' is that a bystander is when a person is suppose to present something or is part of something but that person does not particapate on it. An outstander means that person does not belongs in that particural place.
  5. Read the back of the book, what do you predict this story is about? I predict about this story is about a person probably getting bulied because he is an outstander then he meets this guy that changes him that he should believe in himself and not let anyone bring him down from reaching his dreams.

Our Trip to Mega Air

Hi! 3 weeks ago before week 10 and our term break  we went to experience Mega Air and of course it was very fun, the first thing we did was watch a short video on what are the rules to follow in Mega Air and if we don't follow the rules it would lead us to endangering ourselves if we don't follow the rules. After we watched the video we had to take of our shoes and socks before going on the trampolines then when we entered we saw a dodgeball game when we first entered, immediantaly some students were waiting in line for the dodgeball game, me and my friends really wanted to play dodgeball but a lot of people were already playing and the line was long so we didn't wanna wait their and waste all of our time while there was still a lot of things to do. We went to this jumping thing were you jump of the trampoline and land on this black squishy thing that was really hard to get out of. then we went on the normal trampolines and kept trying to do cool tricks, we did a lot of moves while jumping up in the air. then after we finished and were tired we went back to where we started we we took of our shoes and socks a lot of people brought money and bought food.


I really enjoyed Mega Air it was really fun I really want to try it again. Do you want to fo to Mega Air? Please give me feedback on what I should improve nextime.

Orana Wildlife Park Trip

Orana Wildlife Park Trip

Kia ora Everyone on Monday we went on a field trip to Orana Wildlife Park. We went there to learn about animals and some facts about the animals in the park, the animals that were in the park that we saw were a Turkey, Cockatoo, Peacock, Reptiles, Lions, Rhinos, Spider Monkeys, Bunnies, Ducks, Ostritchies, Gorillas and more.


We checked out a lot of animals in the park/zoo but my favorite animal that I saw there was the Giraffe. Giraffe feeding is a memorable moment that I will never forget. I was terrifed to feed the Giraffe's because I thougth it could bite my hand of if I tried to feed it but luckliy it didn't bite my hand since it actually doesn't have teeth at the top.

What is Scratch? Scratch is an online block-based programming language and an online community primarly at children. Users of the site cn create an online projects using a block-like interface. Users can create stories, games, animations. Users can also play other peoples games in Scratch that they made.

What is Sphero? Sphero is an American robotics and toy company based in Boulder, Colorado. Their first project is the Sphero. The Sphero is a white spherical robot launched in 2011 capable of rolling around areas under control of a smartphone or a tablet. A remastared version of the Sphero 2.0, was released in August 2013. The founders of the Sphero was Ian Bernstein and Adam Willson.

What do they both have in common? Scratch and sphero do have some common things that are the same. They both are a Programming commpany's and they both can be used in devices. They can both be used in programming.

Which "app " do you prefer to use? Why? I would prefer to use Sphero since it is in real life and it's pretty cool to see a robot moving around in your control.

Can you use that app to solve your problem? Not really since we don't really use robots in our school that much but maybe someday it will help you solve your problems like if your making a project using robots.

Maths DLO

Maths DLO

Today I will be showing you how to use the spillting stratedgy using Mulitplication. it's kinda like using the columns stratedgy but different.

The splitting stratedgy is when we multiply numbers into 2 pairs nd then add the parts.

For example: 25 x 4 =                                                 
25 x 4 ===> 20 x 4 = 80 + 5 x 4 = 20
80 + 20 
So, 25 x 4 = 100

1) first split 25 into 20 and 6.
2) then multiply each part of it.
3) Lastly add the annswers together. 

For my first time doing this it was pretty hard since I didn't really understand it then I figured it out, using this stratedgy is easier to do hard muitplication equations.

Today we had to do a challenge and make story using math equations that we were given. We were teamed up in pairs and we had to answer eachothers question in their blog here is what we did.

1) Yuna has 72 piecies of candy and she will share all of her candy to 8 of her friends. How many will each of her friends will get?

2) Ginger the cat has 81 fishes ad is wanting to share all of his fish to 9 of his friends. How many will each of his friends get?

Recycle DLO

Recycle DLO

Today in CIP we were finishing some of our work from last week. This blog post is about recycling pens we find and giving them to Terracycle. we also had to answer some questions on what we are planning to do for this project. our group prepared a DLO for this project and answered some question on what we are going to do.

- How are we going to spread our message to the community? We will spread this project by doing some posters, include in notices, inform the parents by writing a letter or sending a message through emails.

-Who do you think will get involved? I think all of the students that are doing this project are gonna get involved in this and also our teachers and the people that participate in this.

- How many kgs do you predict we will collect? All students are encourage to bring their empty pens in their class and to have at least 3kgs per week so it will be $3.

- What should we do with the donation money we recieve from TerraCycle? The donation that we will have could be going to Kids Can charity and buy some stationery items.

Hurumanu PE

 Hurumanu PE

This week on PE Hurumanu we have been starting to do warm ups and drills that we created wiht our teamates in our group that the teacher gave us. We did warm ups for 5 minutes in the gym, the warm up moves that we did are 20 walking hip flexor stretch, 20 walking glute stretch, 20 running back and forth and finally 20 squats.

The chosen sport that we are doing with our team/practicing the warm up, drills is Volleyball since someone in our team suggested Volleyball because no one in our team really played Volleyball I think so this was a new experience for some of us.

First we had to plan in a doc on what we are doing and how and we had to google some simple warm ups to use for our team.

I wouldn't say that we were sucessfull on the drills since some of our teamates were kind of not listening to eachother and people were kinda talking of some random stuff and not focusing on what we were suppose to do.

Today on CIP Miss Birtch showed us a short video which Anton Lienert - Brown from the All Blacks was telling a message to us about our projects in CIP.



For the past week we have been doing blog posts about the All Blacks. Last week we did a blog post about what we know, what we want to know and what we found out. Then in period 4 we did a poster about the All Blacks on what we want to say to them. After that we did another blog post about the poster and showed a image of what our poster looks like.


I really am proud of our project because we got a message from one of the rugby players in the All Blacks.

Stop Write Hear Learning Story( Art Hurumanu )

For the past term and the past weeks of term 3 we have been working on our own Stop Motion. Today is our second final class of Hurumanu Art and the day when we do our Learning Story of what we did for Art and what we have learnt about Hurumanu Art. I was partnered with Ella and Nykachia.

On Hurumanu Art we were doing a Stop Motion but first we were divided into groups some of us had  4 people in our group and some and more or less. First we had to think of an idea that involves in Manaakitanga after that the teachers gave us a storyboard to plan what our ideas would look like. Then we could an option of how we were gonna do are stop motion on we could either choose clay or white board.

I learnt that even though the Stop Motions weren’t perfect everybody put a lot of effort onto them and worked hard to finish them that it doesn’t matter if it isn’t perfect. I enjoyed making the drawings for our Stop Motion and I got to use an app that I have never used before and working with new people that I normally don’t really work with or talk with all the time it was exciting to make.

What I found difficult is that making the drawings and rubbing the drawings of and redrawing them again was difficult even for my teammates was really hard and doing it for the whole period was so tiring.

This Hurumanu was really exciting and very tiring but sadly everything has to end but a new one will start. Please give me feedback on what I should improve on my writing.

      Term 3 CIP Reflection

      Last week we were planning on making a mufti day on 8th of August, I had to make a DLO but with a partner, my teamate was Liyah we made a DLO about the mufti day and what we need.

      1.What was the planning process? How did we come up with our theme? The planning was to get into 3 or 4 groups and we had to design our own styles on clothes, accessories and food. We came up with our theme by everyone telling the teacher the theme that they came up with and all of us had to vote on which one was the most interesting theme or the theme they liked.

      2.Who are we raising money for? What do you know about them? We are raising money for Crazy Kids can. We know that kids can is giving things that we need for the poor.

      3.What makes a successful Mufti Day? A succsesful mufti day means that everyone is wearing what tehy are suppose to wear and it also means bringing the items that we were told.

      4.What jobs did you have/will you have? How is this spreading Kindness to our community? My job on this CIP was to make a DLO on what we need for Mufti day. This Mufti day is spreading kindness by taking all the gold coin donations and giving them to kids can which goes to the kids that don't have the things they need.

      2.   Make a hole in both sides of the cup.
      3.   Put the straws to the holes, do the same to the other one.
      4.   Tape them together and make sure the cups are facing the sideways.
      5.   Now get your pin and pin both of the straws over and under one another to the rubber of the pencil.
      Once you have made an anemometer we are going to record the wind speed.

      1. Mount the anemometer in a place that has full access to the wind from all directions.
      2. When the time keeper says "Go", the counter in each group will count how many times the marked cup passes them in one minute and write it down.
      3. If possible, repeat the above step four (4) times and record the average number of spins on the chart.

      CONCLUSION:

      Our first one worked nd it can spin. but theres not that much wind to spin it all around an also we didn't have enough time to spin it more 1 time.
