 ESOL Blog

One of my current favorite movies/TV series is called Attack On Titan also known in Japanese as “進撃の巨人” ( Shingeki No Kyojin ). Attack On Titan is one of the most complex and interesting shows I’ve ever watched. The show includes one of the biggest character developments, plot twists, beautiful soundtracks, betrayals, heartbreaking moments, and a lot more! The show is also very medieval and also is really straightforward. You never know what to expect on every episode/season, Each season has a unique story that connects to one another. The story starts off with our two main characters, Eren and Mikasa, Eren had awoken from a long dream that was later revealed that the dream was actually the future of Paradise (The two main character's home). Then comes Armin our third main character of the show, these three were always on each other's side, the three of them all grew up together. Throughout the first season, the three of them were training as soldiers to defeat the titans and bring back wall Maria. The second season was about betrayal, you never know who your enemy might be... The third season was about the history of the world, what the titans were, how the world came to be, about Eren's past and the future of everyone. The fourth season was about war, from the start everybody was bound to die and that once everything is destroyed a new generation will come forth.

Cup Challenge Attempt: 1#

 Cup Challenge Attempt: 1#

Last week on Wednesday we had to do a challenge using cups, string, and rubber bands. The Interpersonal skills we used last week were Negotiation, Manaakitanga, and active listening. My group had trouble working together, half of us were talking and half of us were doing the challenge. In the end, our whole team gave up and wasn't able to accomplish anything. If I could do this activity again I would've improvised better and encouraged our team to work together and use a different method. For me, the level I worked on Helisons behaviour model while doing the challenge would be half of level 1 and level 2.

You need to be working in groups of 4 or 5 people. Please try to work with people who are different from the last task together. Each group gets 1 elastic band and some string, and 5 plastic cupsThe challenge is to attach the string to the elastic band, and each group member pulls on the string to move each cup from one table to another. Challenge each other group to do it as fast as possible.

Biography: Jacinda Ardern

 Biography: Jacinda Ardern

This week for English and Social Studies we had to make a biography of a specific person that could either be known as a hero or a villain. I chose to make a biography of Jacinda Ardern, New Zealand's current prime minister, the reason why I had chosen her is that I consider as one of the bravest and most achievable people in the universe. In the future, I would like to become a confident and independent woman just like Jacinda Ardern.

Culture Clash

Culture Clash

For the past term, we've been learning about tones, colors, techniques, compositions, etc). For the last weeks of term 1, we were working on a painting combination of manga and Pasifika. I will be showing different photos of my progress before the painting.  For the first photo, we had to draw 2 characters and show the progress of how you make hair, head, etc). The second photo is a painting that I made using tricks for painting, glaze, retarder, etc). The third photo is a mix of all the things we did throughout the term.

Interpersonal Skills drawing in pairs.

The Ip skills that I used today were verbal communication, warm fuzzies, and active listening. It was challenging to explain very difficult and complex photos, but somehow at the end, it looked a bit similar?
I managed to somehow get the proportions right.  How did it help with the success/lack of success, of the activity? This activity helped me understand more about my partner, Alexis. It helped us understand each other's differences. If I were to do this again, I would explain the picture more in detail, the proportions, shapes, sizes, etc).

Dirty Water Experiment.

 Dirty Water

Aim: Separate the dirt from the clean water at the end of the experiment.

Method:

1. Use a 250mL beaker to get 200mL of water.

2. Add 2 spoonfuls of dirt.

3. Add 10ml of oil.

4. Add a spoonful of pebbles.

5. stir it for 2mins.

6. label a piece of paper with your names and place it under your beaker.

7. take a photo of your experiment.

Experiment now:

We diluted the dirty water by stirring it together then replacing the original 100ml of dirty water twice then stirring it once again. The way we set the filter is by starting off with the base then the retort stands then putting 2 funnels, one with cloth and one with filter paper. We made this experiment by using solute substances such as dirt and pebbles then adding them into a solvent substance called water with oil. thus the solution we created was called dirty water. Then after mixing for a while some of the solute substance had dissolved into the solvent.

In our first experiment, half of our solvent substance was spilled since one of our classmates decided to run into me and spilled half of it which made our experiment concentrated. Then we added more water which made our dirty water more diluted, something I realized from this is that a change of dilution affects the outcome of the experiment.

After a brief time, we had to filter our dirty water back to clean and clear water. We used two different funnels and two different papers, the top was just a normal daily item that you buy from stores, on the bottom funnel we used a real filter paper. The top funnel was for collecting the big pieces of solute and the bottom was to make the water clear and collect the minute piece of solute and make the solvent/liquid back to how it was before we added any solute. At the end of our experiment, we managed to make it a bit cleaner than before but there was still a tint of yellow.

Filteration setup:

After the filtering process:
