The History Of New Zealand

The History Of New Zealand

Hi! My name is Zoe. Today I will be talking about The History of New Zealand and the history of how the Maori People found New Zealand.

So It all started with the Eastern Polynesians Sailing across South East Asia, They even made it to South America. They stumbled across an Island and agreed to settle there for a short time. The founders of New Zealand who first arrive Was a man called Kupe and his wife, They Arrived in New Zealand accidentally by chasing an octopus that was stealing their fish. They also Used Waka's(Canoes) to get to New Zealand.

James Cook was the first person to see the island and Named it New Zealand after the long white cloud but Kupe's wife was the person who named it Aotearoa which means in English New Zealand.

The Polynesians couldn't leave New Zealand due to Strong Winds that would push them back to the Land So they were technically stuck in New Zealand.

The Polynesians brought Crops to New Zealand but it was too cold to plant them. Eventually, they became Moriori. They first hunted fishes for food, then eventually hunted birds for food, one of the birds they hunted was called the Moa, The Moa was a flightless native bird but sadly are now Extinct due to causes. The Moa only laid around 1-3 eggs each year which made it hard for them to survive.

They eventually settled into places where they could farm their crops where it wasn't too cold nor hot and so they could protect themselves. People say that the Moriori and the Maori People are the same by DNA, Skeletal Evidence and by Language.

As you can see from these sentences that the history of New Zealand is very fascinating to learn about it and there are also some interesting facts about the Polynesians and other facts about New Zealand.

Hurumanu Maths Reflection.

Hurumanu Maths Reflection.

For the past weeks since school started. This Hurumanu is about Health and Maths. This blog post is a reflection of what we did for the past weeks. What we learned in Maths are Tellicharts, Frequenycarts, and BarGraphs.

For the Tellicharts, We counted the different colored cars that we saw on the road outside, to see what was the most common car we could see. The different colored cars we saw were, Blue, Red, Yellow, Green, Silver, White and other(Black, Gold, etc.) Of course White was the commonest car we could see and we found approximately 61 White Cars.

For the Frequency Chart, we just counted all the colored cars that we saw and added them all together.

For the Bargraphs we explained what is needed to make a Bargraph, For example, The needed things to make a Bargraph are Title, Labels, Measurements, Keys and how many numbers does that object have, for example, Favorite Color, Colors, of cars, Etc).

I really enjoyed doing Maths in this Hurumanu It was super fun and I got to learn a lot of things. Please give me feedback on what I should improve on.
