Water Cycle

Hurumanu: The Water Cycle

AIM: TO LOOK AT THE WATER CYCLE AND HOW CLIMATE CHANGE IS AFFECTING IT.

Definition:

A green box with icons and white text. Text reads: Where is Earth's Water? 96.5 percent is in the oceans; 1.7 percent is in lakes, rivers, streams, and soil; 1.7 percent is in polar ice caps, glaciers, and permanent snow; 0.001 percent is in water vapor in Earth's atmosphere

Scientific words:

  • Evaporation. When water is heated by radiant energy it turns into water vapour.
  • Transpiration. Evaporation from plants.
  • Condensation. When water vapour cools, molecules join together and form clouds.
  • Precipitation. When clouds get heavy the waters falls as rain, sleet, hail, or snow.
  • Acidification: the action or process of making or becoming acidic.

We will be conducting an experiment that looks at the different ways that climate change is affecting the water cycle.
An illustration of the water cycle showing how water travels from rivers and streams to clouds to snow and back again

THE WATER CYCLE EXPERIMENT

Bag 1: Normal Water cycle
Bag 2: Water cycle with CO2 added: like Oceans in climate change
Bag 3: Water cycle with ice added: like Antarctica in climate change

Material:

  1.  Water / Soda water
  2.  3x Bag
  3.   1x Blue Food Colouring
  4.   Litmus Paper
  5. Permanent Marker
  6. Sand

Steps:

  1. Get a piece of Litmus Paper and get a permanent Marker.
  2.  Draw a Water cycle on the bag.(optional choice)
  3.  Pour 1x cup of water or Soda water into the bag.
  4. 2x drops of Blue colouring food into the bag.
  5.  Hang the bag up onto a window.
  6. You can put  in bag 2 piece of Litmus Paper.

Findings:

The Water Cycle: Bag 1
CO2 Water Cycle: Bag 2
Acid
Desert Water Cycle
Bag 3
Does it cycle?
Yes  It did. Yes It does. Yes
Amount of Water
    2 2 2
Acidity
    1 3 1

Key: Water and acidity amount: 1 = none
2 = small
3 = large

Other comments:

1. Bag 1 cycled water.
2.Bag 1 had a small amount of water.
3. Bag 1 The acidity  in the bag 1 was low.
4. Bag 2 cycled water
5. Bag 2 had a small amount of water.
6. Bag 2 The acidity in the bag 2 was high.
7. Bag 3 cycled water.
8. Bag 3 had a small amount of water.
9. Bag 3 The acidity of bag 3 was low.

Conclusion:

Bag 1 had cycled water then it had a small amount of water in it. The acidity in bag 1 was low.

Bag 2 had cycled water and bag 2 had a small amount of water then the acidity in bag 2 was high.

Bag 3 had cycled water and then is had a small amount of water then the acidity in bag 3 was low.

Draw a labelled diagram of the Water Cycle

Water cycle words:
  1. Precipitation
  2. Hurricanes
  3. Acid rain
  4. Evaporation
  5. Carbon Dioxide
  6. Water
  7. Defirestation
  8. Water vapour
  9. Transpiration
  10. Flooding

TODAY YOU WILL BE INVESTIGATING THE EFFECTS THAT CLIMATE CHANGE HAS ON THE WATER CYCLE.

  1. Using your SOLO hexagons poster write a paragraph about the different aspects of climate change.
  2. Write about the following Climate Change concepts:
You can do these by powerpoint, embedding a movie , on your blog, on a doc or any other form of presentation. It is up to you.

CIP Mufti day DLO

CIP Mufti day DLO

Today we had to choose between doing an colouring poster and a DLO poster, if we choose the DLO we could work as partners, My partner is Liyah and we did a DLO poster.

Here is our work!

I really injoyed making this I hope you enjoyed this too! please give me feedback on what i should improve! good bye!

A Better Place (Manakintanga Unfinished)

A Better Place (Manaakintanga Unfinished)

Kia ora everyone, last term we have been writing a storyboard about Manaakintanga/ are stop motion story.

In a year that the world was a hopeless, negative place were everybody was never thought of love.
A little girl was thought that the world would never change and it would always stay the same, dark, gloomy
and miserable, but she wanted to change that so did her brother this is a story about a little girl who wanted to change
the world…

Hi! My name is Manakintanga but everybody calls me kit for short, I also have a brother called Haru…..
Sorry it’s really cold right now even though it’s spring and there are flowers everywhere and brown trees
wait i’m suppose to tell you a story try not to get distracted ok..., “ahem ahem”
I am going to tell you a story of how I changed the world into a happy, bright, caring and lovable world.
It all started when I was a little girl, I lived in a village called Phoenix Drop, I always wondered why people
were never Happy or excited but I was never keen to ask anyone since I was scared that they would ask me
why I was so curious to know so I never asked anyone or mentioned it once. Everytime I walked outside our house
I would always see hatred, despair and caringless...finally one day I stood up and walked to my Mother and asked her “
Why was everyone never happy nor loved? What’s going on?”. She ignored me and walked away like nothing happened,
I was so confused why she wouldn’t tell me the reason why?
. I tried asking other people the same question but everybody did the same thing....

Maths Reflection Blog

Maths Reflection Blog

what was the activity? The activity was a problem that we had to solve using strategy's.

What strategy did your group try? My group used the Column Addition strategy.

what did you find challenging? I found it really challenging trying to work out a problem that has 3 parts to a problem and having the same equation but different answers.

How well did your group work together? were you successful? I would say that our group was ok half of the session some of our teammates were talking about different stuff but then the other half of the session they started to help us solve the problem. I think we were half successful since we solved the first part of the Problem.

Thank you for reading my blog post! Please give me feed back on what I should improve on my blog posts. :)

Night Vision Questions

Night Vision Questions

  • After reading the back, what additional information do you have about the story? I have learned that Ella West is the Author of Night Vision.

  • What genre (type) of story do you think this is? ex) romance, thriller etc. Why do you think that? What clues can you see?  I think this books genre is probably adventure, mystery.

  • Personal comment: does this book sound interesting to you? Yes this book is interesting to me.

  • What are your thoughts on completing a novel study? I think maybe completing the book.

IT'S COOL TO BE KIND!

IT'S COOL TO BE KIND!

Today on CIP we had to do an animation about kindness and how to show kindness to people this is my work.

I hope you enjoyed my slide show and this thought you how to be kind to other people even if heir different from everybody else. :)

Please give me feed back on what I should improve on my work.

Water Cycle Research

Water Cycle Research

Hi everyone this week on Hurumanu Science we were asked to do a blog post about these Big words. Here is my work.

Acidification
Deforestation
Water Vapour
Ice melt

What effect is this having  on climate change.
( 4 sentences)

Acidification means the process of  making something very acidic. Deforestation means an action of clearing a wide area of trees. Water Vapour is water in its gaseous state-instead of liquid or solid (ice). Ice Melt When the ice melts, the dark ocean surface that takes its place absorbs most of the incoming solar energy, causing the seas to get warmer and more ice to melt.

What effect is this having on Climate change ?
Ocean acidification is occurring because too much carbon dioxide is being released into the atmosphere. Many factors contribute to rising levels. the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas for human industry is one of the major causes of Climate changes. Dumping greenhouse gases into the atmosphere makes the atmosphere more humid. And since water vapour is itself a greenhouse gas.
