What are we going to do for our Community?

What are we going to do for our Community?

in your own words, what is the project? The Project we are going to do is collecting rubbish that can still be recycled and make art with it.

what is the purpose? the purpose of this project is to help our environment much more better and less dirty.

how much rubbish do you think we are going to collect? Why do you think that? we are going to collect 5 pounds of rubbish for our art. I think that because maybe other students will make more than 1 art to like 2 or 3.

What colour do you think we will see the most? I think after when all the students collected all the rubbish we will see original colours without any brown/black dirty colours with a horrible scent. why? I think that because the students will pick up all of the rubbish around our schools and tell other students to not litter around the school.

what type of art would you like to create? I would like to create a heart that has a logo of hornby high with people surrounding it like they care of our community.

Different types of strategy's and symbols to use in Division

Different types of strategy to use in Division

1. you could could half them into groups and half it again like a chart but much more smaller.

2. you could also find out the answer in multiplication( Example: 6 x 2 = 12  12÷2 = 6

Different types of symbol you can use in Division

Symbol Symbol Name Meaning / definition
÷ - division sign / obelus - division
/ - division slash - division
— - horizontal line - division/ fraction

Community impact project

What community did you joined?
I have joined the Hornby High School Community.

What is the reason you joined this community?
I joined Hornby High School Community because I like to add my ideas to improve Hornby High school. Maybe people could think about moving here next year.

what idea with you like to do for your community?
I'm interested in having a science charity fair to make cool experiments so people could give money to us students and give them to the teachers and they can give them to the principal so they can improve Hornby High school.

how do you think you could achieve your idea?
we will ask our teachers and some other teachers and if they agree we could ask other students that you think that will do a good job and then set up all the equipment. We could also do a mufti day so other people could also visit our charity fair and little kids could also watch us make cool experiments.

Scoones

Aim: To look at different kitchen ingredients in scones and their effects

Your group will:
  • Make 3 types of scone.
  • Normal plus 2 others.
  • You will make the scone, shape it on your plate, bring it up and place it on the oven tray with a clearly written label. The label must have Group Name and Scone Type.
Scone types:
Image result for scones how much to leave it in the oven
  1. No butter
  2. No Baking Powder
  3. No milk
  4. With Lemonade
  5. With Baking Soda
  • Draw up a chart to record your findings
  • Make 3 recipes using the following quantities

Recipe:

  • 1/2 cup Edmonds standard flour
  • 1 tsp Edmonds baking powder  or 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp butter
  • 1/4 cup milk, approximately or 1/4 cup lemonade.

The recipes my group chose were:
1. Normal

2.Lemonade
3. Baking Soda

The other two recipes were:

1. Name: Normal Scones

Ingredients:

  •  flour
  •  baking powder
  •  milk
  • butter

2. Name: Lemonade Scones

Ingredients:

  •   flour
  •    Baking Powder
  •   lemonade
  • butter

Image result for sconesMaterials:

1.bowl
2.spoon
3. milk
4. butter
5.lemonade
6. baking powder
7.Flour

Process

Step 1: get a bowl and a spoon
Step 2: add the flour and add the baking powder in.
Step 3: add milk or lemonade also add butter in if you want to the bowl with flour and baking powder.
Step 4: mix them together until its not sloppy( if you added to much lemonade or milk add more flour in).
Step 5: cut them into the pieces and roll the pieces into a ball
Step 6: add the scones in the oven for about 10-12 minutes until golden brown.

Findings:

TRIAL NUMBER:

HEIGHT (CM)

1. NORMAL

White/Golden brownflour5cm

2. lemonade

whitegross lemonade3cm

3. milk

without butter

Conclusion:
The normal scone tasted like flour but it looked really tasty but in realty it tasted weird, it was the tallest out of all the scones we made the height was 5cm, the colour was kinda golden brown. The lemonade scone was not my favourite even tho it smelled really good it mixed with the flour and it tasted weird my partners were puking on the bin, it was 3cm long, it was the second tallest out of all the scones. The colour was just white there was no brown at all. The third scone which is the milk scones without butter I guess it was the best scone, it didn't taste bad or good it tasted like plain bread that had no flavour in it. The colour was the same as the lemonade scone, the height was 2.5cm long it pretty small and it was hard. I really wanted to make almonds with it but we didn't and it's fine I guess.

How To Healthy & Physical

On Tuesday we did Hurumanu drama a video about How To Stay Healthy and physical and less lazy. first we had to plan what actions were gonna do, I was teamed Tasharn,Risha and we finally made an action about our video, the action was me sleeping for hours and Risha waking me up and trying to make me do 10 Star jumps and how to keep your body stay healthy and exercised.

Here is our video we made

Chromatography

Chromatography

Aim: To separate colours by using the process of chromatography.

Definition: A technique for separating the different parts of a mixture / solid using liquid.

Rainbow paper

Materials;

1. Filter paper
2. cup
3. water colour markers Black, green and red.
4. Hot water
5. Ruler
6. pencil

Process:

Step 1: get filter paper
Step 2: fold the paper 2 cm
Step 3: add the colours by 1 cm
Step 4: put the filter paper in the cup while the edge hangs of outside of the cup.
Step 5: add hot water to where the colours are.
Step 6:watch the colours rise.

Findings: we found out that when they rise up some of the colours mix and made blue.

Reflection: What have I learnt from this experiment I learned that science can make amazing experiments.

Skittles

Aim: To separate colours by using the process of chromatography.

Materials;

1. Petri dish
2. skittles
3. water

Process:

Step 1: get a Petri dish

Step 2: add 5 skittles and put them around the sides of the container.
Step 3:Add water
Step 4: watch it make a pie chart

Findings: we found that when we put water into the petri dish with skittles it make half of the colours on the rainbow and we found out the it can make shapes.
Reflection: we learned that skittles can be used for projects/experiment.

What did the colours do? the colours made pie chart but rainbow.

Did the colours mix together? the colours didn't mix together.

Why or why not? the colours didn't because each food colour has the same amount of sugar dissolved from each skittle.

Extension:

What is another experiment you could do using chromatography and how would you do it.

Title; Rainbow scratch paper art.

Aim: to make patterns on the paper.

Materials: Long filter paper, black acrylic( it can be any colour but it has to be dark) paint, packing tape, plastic cup, watercolour markers, hot water and maybe ruler and pencil to line up were you put the colours.

Process:

Step 1: get all the material you need.
Step 2: get your filter paper add how much colour's you want, fold the edge of the filter paper 2 cm.
Step 3: after the paper is fully covered of colours put the filter paper on the cup leaving the edge on the outside.
Step 4: add hot water to the cup.
Step 5: leave the paper until its dry.
Step 6: add the packing tape all around the paper, cut the paper were you folded.
Step 7: add a thin layer of black paint and make sure that there are no clear spots.
Step 8: make rainbow patterns by scratching them of with tiny tools.

Home Chemistry Experiment

Home Chemistry Experiment

Kia ora everyone. On Tuesday my class did Science and all of us have been working on a home chemistry module as part of our hurumanu Project to do.

I’m am making this project and putting it on my  to teach other people that don’t know this experiment and to collect science points for a science badge.

Aim/Goal: To make a chemical reaction(Fizz)
Materials/Equipment: Baking Soda, Vinegar, 2x cups, tray, measuring cups.

In week 2 we did Hurumanu we mixed two simple ingredients to make an experiment, the materials you need for this experiment are Baking Soda, 2x cups, Measuring cups and a tray so your materials won’t make a mess all over your table. First you will need to put out all of your ingredients. Next you will measure the baking soda into the cup if you want it to be even with then also measure how much vinegar your putting into the other cup. This means you could do both and see if there’s any difference what ingredients go first and works better, you could do baking soda in vinegar first or vinegar and baking soda instead. After that you could slowly add your other ingredient into the cups. Now that you know how to make the experiment and saw the reaction you could now do the other one and you can record the reaction or take a photo if you want.

Baking Soda and vinegar Steps

  • Step: 1 Get 2x cups

  • Step: 2 Get a tray and put the cups on them.

  • Step: 3 Get 2x measuring cups and measure how much your going to add into the cup.

  • Step: 4 add the soda first and add the the vinegar in you could also add it in the opposite way.

  • Step: 5 watch it fizz out of the cup.
