 How do Bee’s make Honey?

Bee’s are the only type of insects that are able to produce honey and have different types of breeds that can also make honey, the honey they make is delicious, sweet and nutritious to eat!

Firstly, bee’s have to find a suitable food source to be able to make honey. The food source the bee’s usually need is flowers. after they find a suitable, fresh flower to feed on.  Bee’s usually visit 5,000+ flowers a day and for bee’s to make 1 pound of honey. bees will need to visit 2 million+ flowers.

Secondly, after once the bees have collected the nectar from the flower they store the nectar in their stomach. enzymes then break down the nectar into fructose and glucose which is sugar. Once they arrive at their hive(home or base) they pass on the digested nectar to other bee workers by vomiting to each other’s mouth’s/by mouth connection.

Thirdly, the other worker will then place the digested nectar into one of the cells that is in one of the million honeycombs. They will then start to flap their wings to evaporate water from the nectar. The nectar then starts to thicken up and will eventually turn to honey soon enough.

Finally, following from the third step. the bees would then finish by covering the cells with a wax cap made by leftover sugar contents. Then the honey is finished and is ready!

As you can see this writing explains how bee’s produce honey, in reality it takes a lot of effort and time for bee’s to be able to produce honey. So make the most of it while it’s still there!

Hi guys! last week we were given a task of equations(subtraction) and we had to use algorithm. I will explain in this blog post how to use algorithm and what algorithm is. What is algorithm? An algorithm is a step by step demonstration of problem-solving/data processing.

update: Last week we did multiplication using partitioning. partitioning is dividing things into parts. examples:

45 x 26 = 1170         

40 x 2 = 80

5 x 6 = 30 

Emotional Awareness

For the past few weeks in Wanaga, we've been talking about emotions, being able to control them when we are in difficult situations/Impulses and I have come to realise that all these things are very important to our wellbeing.

For me being able to control my emotions in different situations is very helpful and important you could avoid serious situations and not get involved in any physical fights. even though sometimes it's difficult to control our emotions we have to not rely on our impulses.

knowing how to react and respond in situations rather than acting on impulses means that I have control over what I would say to them/what I would respond to them, having control over my actions. Impulse/Impulses is a strong desire(words/actions) you do without having the time to think.

The effect that these things have on my Social Wellbeing can help me control my emotions and actions when needed in serious situations and might help with the oucome whether it's good or bad.

Maths DLO    

For the past 2 weeks when our Hurumanu teacher was away, all we've been doing was answering a Math sheet with over 40 pages to work on. I only managed to complete 17 pages out of the 2 weeks given.

The worksheet included, Addition, Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Decimals, Odd and even numbers, Measuring units, Temperature and more. Each page has 6 to 7 equations. 

It was pretty fun working independently on the Math sheet and answering each page with different equations on.

My Own Personal Mindset

My Own Personal Mindset

This blog post is going to be about a growth mindset, what it is, how and why. A growth mindset to me means, trying you're best, improving your talent, challenging yourself into doing things. A growth mindset also means you have a positive attitude towards people and yourself. 

Personally, if I was asked what kind of mindset I am, I would put myself between a growth mindset and a fixed mindset. I tend to avoid challenges and would like things to be the same, I also put a lot of effort into my projects/work and try to improve it. When I receive feedback I normally ignore it but sometimes when I really need it, I look to go find feedbacks from my blog post and learn from it.

One thing I experienced that was a fixed mindset was when I was chosen to be a representative for my class but I declined it. I deeply wanted to do it but I was afraid of taking new challenges and risk.

A strategy I think would help me move towards a growth mindset is challenging things could help me grow as a person, even if there's a risk of failing. you'll be able to learn new things from it even maybe change you, like how I went out trying ice skating for the first time that I despised but ended up enjoying it.

Matariki Word Search

Last term we were told to do make a project about Matariki, unfortunately, we weren't able to finish it in time so we decided to finish it this term. The activity I choose to do is a 10-word search including Matariki words such as Matariki, Tradition, Festival, Harvest, Celebration, New Years, Kites, Taurus, Remembrance, Constellation and Pleiades.

I added 1 extra word which was the English version or Matariki, "Pleiades".

What is Matariki about?

Matariki is about celebration, culture and spending time with your dear loved ones, Matariki symbolized the harvest festival where the Maori feasted on crops that they had prepared.

Pixton Mini Comic

Pixton Mini Comic

After I finished making my comic strip we had to make a comic in Pixton, I chose to make a mini-comic about the news in Pixton, the "story" is about two news reporters talking about a murder outbreak in Florida and 10 of the murderer's victim were found dead and 13 were severely injured.

Pixton is very easy and fun to use for making fast online comics, I enjoyed using Pixton and making a short comic.
