Foot Print Analysis
On Tuesday in Forensic Science we learnt about footprints and recently we learn about handprints/fingerprints. For fingerprints, we learnt about the different patterns like whorls, loops and arches. I recently discovered that the majority of my fingerprints are looped and only a few are whorls.
What is a footprint? A footprint is a mark that is left on top of a surface by people and is usually used to investigate and find clues in forensics science, they can tell the different prints made by the shoe. Footprints can be left by both animals and humans, they could also be barefoot or with shoes. Footprints/shoeprints can also be used to figure out both weight and height.
Social Studies Gladiator Poster
Last week we made an advertisement poster about ancient gladiators from the past. We learned about Roman numerals, Roman Sports and where gladiators would be forced to fight.

My Holiday :)
I am going to write about my time during my holiday. Physically, I've gone out to the mall with my friends for 4 hours, walking around outside and inside the mall, we even got to buy food together, rings, and more. I also went to one of my friend's birthdays, went to the city too, and a lot more but I mostly spent my time at home playing games, watching movies, and making also making Omurice with my brother.
I also spent some time improving my drawing skills and also my writing skills, and also reading skills. I tried studying mathematics since the end-of-year tests were coming up this term but I kinda am forgetful so I kinda don't remember some things that I studied. I also played a lot of games with my friends online and we also tried to make Dalgona candy with one of them but we miserably failed.
Lastly, we went to go buy some snacks from Japan Mart & Big T to buy some snacks since we were planning to watch a movie at night. We also bought an instant Bubble Tea maker which tasted decent but had a strange aftertaste that made my head dizzy and hurt. Emotionally, my holidays weren't that boring but it wasn't that exciting either and I also did cry a lot because of watching Animes & Kdramas. I also read a lot of mangas and manhwas online but some of them aren't completed.
Technology Lawyer Paragraph
Technology has gradually changed over the years like how humans have also changed throughout the years. The reason why technology now is so much more advanced is that they’ve made it safer, efficient, faster etc). Like how planes in the past were commonly hijacked but now planes have been given improvements and new technology. Also how cars in the past used to produce a lot of smoke but now technology has been minimalizing how much toxic air cars produce to help the environment. There is more shown proof that technology has changed like how humans have changed, but has technology changed for the better or for the worse? For humans, life has been easier but for our environment, it could be different.
ESOL REFLECTION
The best lesson for me this term was when we did the hearing test and got free time at the end of the lesson. I enjoyed doing the hearing test because it was challenging and that you needed to carefully listen to be able to get a high score. I also enjoyed it when at the end of the lesson the teacher let us use our phones and film videos. Something I enjoyed very much throughout the year was when we had to do a slide presentation about something that was related to a movie called Penguin, A movie that thought about the process of grief. It was my favourite lesson of ESOL when we all had to present our projects and read them out loud, although it was a bit embarrassing, we all managed to overcome our fears and present to the whole class.
I was very proud of the presentation I did since I spent a really long time practising, making the slide look interesting, and also researching about Thailand. Something that I would do differently next term is to fix my volume when I speak and carefully listen to the teacher when they are explaining something to us that is important for our learning.
I hope next term we can do more physical activities in groups, like going on a trip somewhere, debates between each other, kahoots, quizlets, etc). I like having ESOL especially when I am together with my friends.
DLO SOCIAL STUDIES
What was the New Zealand Land March? A land march that was lead by Whina Cooper including 50000 Marchers. It was a petition that was signed by more than 60,000 people.
Understand the events that caused the protest? The protest took place because Maori were suffering cultural loss, land alienations. Basically in the past Maori were treated unfairly compared to other people in New Zealand. The Land March was successfully led with the support of many and by a very special person called Dame Whina Cooper who led the Land March proudly.
After the New Zealand land march, the Maori finally had enough courage to stand up for themselves and everyone started being aware of the land loss and everything else. They also started letting Maori speak their own languages, share their culture with other people, making Maori language week an official event around New Zealand, and also making Maori one of the official languages in New Zealand.
For these three weeks, I've learnt more about Maori culture and about its historical past.
For the past week, we have been playing badminton in P.E. Today I am going to tell you how to score a game of badminton.
You can play badminton in singles or pairs. There are smaller lines over to the and wider/deeper lines for a double match.
If you hit the shuttlecock over to the opposition side, and they don't hit it, but it lands within the court lines, you score a point.
if a server is unsuccessful in hitting the shuttlecock over the net, or the serve doesn't go diagonal, it's a point to the other team and they get the next serve.
if you hit the shuttlecock out of the lines/court, it's a point to the other team.
if you don't hit the shuttlecock, or don't hit it back over the net, and it falls to the ground on your side of the court, its a point to the other team.
The first team to reach 21 points wins the game. There are usually 3 games played. so you might win 3-0, 2-1 or 2-0.
if the teams are both on 20 points in a game, the winner must get two points ahead to win, eg. 22-20.
Social Studies DLO
Today in Social studies we made a map of the Hikoi from the far North Parliament. We have been learning about the Land march that Whina Cooper lead. Making the map was very successful, at first it was challenging figuring out how to add the locations but it got easier. What would I do next time? I wouldn't do anything differently if I had to do it again.
Reflection - The trolley
Today we read a story called "The trolley" and answered questions about it. The story is about a mom who was planning to get a present for her two children but didn't have enough money to get them an expensive present instead she made a home-made trolley made out of used things from her house as a present, she spent a sleepless night just to finish the present but she was anxious her children would be embarrassed and unhappy with the present since others had gotten expensive presents.
Questions:
1) What was the mother’s name? The mother’s name was TaniaWhat were the names of her kids? Her children’s names are Miria and Hoani.
2)Why did she make them a trolley? She made her children a trolley since she wanted to give them a present because she loves them.
3) What was her anxiety about? Why was she so anxious about that? She was anxious about giving the gift because other children were getting expensive gifts and her gift was homemade.
4) How did the children react to the gift? The children loved the gift although they didn’t say anything they quickly rode on it in their pyjamas.
5) What does this teach us? This topic teaches us that happiness can’t always be bought with money.
Arts Kete
At the end of term 2, we were given a form of different options we could pick for our Arts kete like stone carving, watercolour painting, cross-stitch and more. We had to pick 2 different options in case if we couldn't get into our first options, the two options I picked were watercolour and storyboard art. Our Arts Kete is only on Wednesdays, yesterday for watercolour we made our Kahui birds which were either Mohua, Riroriro, and Tieke.
We also introduced ourselves to our class to get to know each other a bit, after we chose designs and songs as recommendations of what we would like to learn/listen to next class.
Health: Discrimination and Racism
In health, we were set a task that required us to go either in pairs or by ourselves. The topic we chose to write about is discrimination and racism around the world. Firstly we had to choose our 6 big questions, The reason we picked these is that we think these questions related to our topic about discrimination and racism.
Discrimination And Racism
Why are discrimination and racism harmful?
Discrimination and racism are harmful because people that have different races are being made fun of for things that they have to do or what they look like because of their race, and it affects them and makes them extremely insecure and sometimes it makes them anxious about the point that they get headaches, increased heart rate, sweating, trembling and muscle tension.
What influences people to do it?
Back in the past, children were taught whatever their society and culture have learnt about such as beauty standards, skin colours, Appearances, what’s normal and abnormal, etc). Social media could also be the cause of racism, back in 2017 racism was normalized for a whole year with a president in America running a hate-filled platform that denigrated and demeaned anyone who was not a white male. Children under the influence of social media.
Who can’t and who can?
Personally, I don’t think that anyone should be racist against each other. Each race is different and has different quirks so I don’t think anyone can be racist to each other.
What needs to change?
How the rest of the world views different cultures and races. Standing up against discrimination by peaceful protests, donations for people who are being tormented.
What assumptions are made?
There are many assumptions made about each race like; Black people being criminals, and Asians being the reason for covid 19 just like how trump calls it the China virus.
What are the common beauty standards around the world?
Since the early 2000s, beauty standards have gradually changed. Now we need to have a flat stomach, “healthy” skin, Large breasts + butt, thigh gap etc).
A way to manage racism.
We should spread awareness. Employers can raise awareness by giving materials to educate employees about the culture of racism and the history of different races, in addition to having talks. The majority of people are oblivious of racial injustice and the unintentional comments they make towards their BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) coworkers.
Human Rights Blog
Last week we started a poster about the 30 rules of Human rights while rephrasing it in our own words. We also had to go in pairs for this project, I teamed up with Alexis as my partner.

Gloriavale Questions:
What are the traditional roles of men, women and children that are shown in this community? one traditional role for men would be construction.
At what age are members of Gloriavale expected to begin work? About 2 to 3 years old, basically when the child is able to walk.
What role does religion play in the lives of Gloriavale members? It is rumoured that if they leave Gloriavale in the afterlife they will go to hell.
Do you think the people living in Gloriavale are happy? Why or why not? In my opinion, I think most of them are neutral living in Gloriavale, the reason for this is because that was the way they were thought to live because of their strict religion. I do think some feel different but are afraid to speak about it to others.
Do you think the people in Gloriavale experience Human Rights? People in Gloriavale do not get to experience Human Rights especially women. They are told what their roles are.
Would you be happy to live in a community like Gloriavale. Why or why not? I would be unhappy to live in Gloriavale, having your own freedom taken away just when your life had started would be the worst.

Questions:
1) What is another world for apartheid? Another word for apartheid would be apartness/separation by ethnicity/skin colour.
2) Why did the protestors need helmets? They needed to wear them because the police had used long batons to aggressively hit them.
3) Why do you think being called "Honorary whites" upset the Maoi All blacks? Before the New Zealand government had cancelled two All blacks tours to South Africa due to Racist rules but then was mocked as "honorary whites" when they first arrived.
4) Why was the Hamilton rugby game cancelled? It was cancelled because hundreds of anti-tour protesters had infiltrated the field with chants.
5) do you think this protest was successful? why? why not? I think the anti-tour protesters were successful in the end, the apartheid was sent to jail and was stopped by Nelson Mandela when he became president of South Africa.

CHEMISTRY BLOG
For the last 4 weeks, we have been doing different experiments involving contraction, expansion, conduction, convection in liquid, and convection in gas. All these experiments all related to what we have learned about.
Contraction: Something that combines with another substance reduces in size/gets smaller, this relates to our experiment called imploding can. The reason for this is because when we heated up the water inside the can using the bunsen burner and then quickly tipped the can upside down into cold water, the can immediately imploded because the cold and hot water contracted together which made the can implode.
Expansion: This would be the opposite of contraction, expansion is when instead of decreasing the size increases.
Conduction: A process in which either heat or electricity travels through a substance with a difference in temperature.
Convection in liquid: The speed of heat travelling through opposite substances. Using hot water (not boiling) in a beaker we slowly added in the permanganate crystal thoroughly expanding the colour fastly through the water.
Convection in gas: When particles with a lot of heat energy replace less heated particles, the hot particles/areas rise into the cold areas because it is a lot denser than the cold areas.
